GSM gate intercoms: answer your gate from anywhere
Want to answer your gate even when you're not at home? A GSM gate intercom lets you do just that. In this post we explain what a GSM intercom is, how it works, and how it lets you speak to visitors and open your gate from your phone, wherever you are.
What is a GSM gate intercom?
A GSM intercom is a gate intercom that works over the mobile phone network. It uses a SIM card, just like your phone, so it doesn't need a cable run from the gate to the house. That makes it a practical choice for long driveways, or where running a cable would mean digging up a drive or garden.
How does a GSM intercom work?
When a visitor presses the call button at the gate, the intercom rings your mobile. You answer it like any other call and speak to whoever is at the gate.
On video-capable models you can see them too, so you know exactly who's there before you decide to let them in.
Open the gate from your phone
Once you've spoken to your visitor, you can open the gate from your phone. There's no need to walk down the drive or find a remote.
That also cuts down the need for remote controls. Instead of handing out remotes to family members or regular visitors, the phone in your pocket does the job.
Answer your gate from anywhere in the world
This is the real benefit of a GSM intercom. You can answer the gate as if you're in the house, from anywhere in the world, as long as your phone has signal or data.
That's handy when you're out and about:
- Deliveries – speak to the driver and let them leave a parcel safely inside the gate
- Visitors – let family or friends in if they arrive before you get home
- Tradespeople – let a gardener or cleaner in without having to be there
Supply, fitting and health checks
We can supply and fit GSM intercoms for automatic gates. If you already have one, we check it as part of our gate health check, along with your remotes, keypads and other access controls.
The health check costs £199 for one gate, plus £99 for each additional gate checked on the same visit.
Frequently asked questions
Does a GSM intercom need a cable to the house?
No. A GSM intercom works over the mobile phone network using a SIM card, so there's no cable run between the gate and the house.
Can I see who's at the gate?
On video-capable models, yes. You can see and speak to your visitor before you open the gate.
Do I still need remote controls?
You can open the gate from your phone, which cuts down the need for remotes. Many people still like to keep a remote in the car.
Does it work when I'm abroad?
Yes, as long as your phone has signal or data, you can answer the gate as if you're at home.
