Electric and Automatic Gate Repairs in Southampton and Hampshire

A gate that won't open keeps you in, or out. A gate that won't close leaves your property open to anyone. Either way, you want it sorted. We repair electric and automatic gates at homes, businesses and industrial sites across Hampshire, Dorset, Surrey and Berkshire from our base in Southampton, including gates put in by other companies.

Call us on 07890 387915. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:30pm, and we take emergency call-outs out of hours too.

Gate faults we repair

You don't need to know what's wrong before you ring. Tell us what the gate is doing and we'll take it from there. These are the problems we see most often:

  • Gate won't open or won't close. It may not move at all, stop part way or turn back on itself. The cause could be the power supply, the control panel, the motor or a safety device.
  • Remote controls and keypads. Handsets that have stopped working, keypads that no longer accept a code, or a receiver that has lost its settings.
  • Safety edges and photocells. A photocell knocked out of line, dirty or damaged, or a split safety edge, can stop the gate or make it reverse. These devices are there to protect people, so we repair them properly and never bypass them.
  • Motors. A motor that hums but doesn't move, runs slowly, sounds rough or has stopped altogether.
  • Hinges and moving parts. Worn or seized hinges, or a gate that has dropped and catches the ground, put extra strain on the motor and can lead to bigger faults.
  • Damage. Gates, posts, motors and cables damaged by a vehicle, a storm or general wear and tear.

What happens when you call

When you ring, we'll ask what the gate is doing, where it is and whether you can currently get in and out. A few things are worth checking first, if it's safe to do so:

  • Is the power on to the gate, including any isolator switch?
  • If only the remote has stopped working, could the handset battery be flat?
  • Is anything blocking the photocells or sitting in the gate's path?
  • Are there any lights flashing or beeps on the control panel?

If you can, take a photo or short video of what the gate is doing. You can send it to us, or message us about the fault, on WhatsApp at 07890 387915. Our contact form takes photos too.

Call-out charges are fixed, with standard, emergency and out-of-hours rates, and vary depending on your location. The repair itself is quoted after we've assessed the gate on site, so you know the cost before the work goes ahead.

Our engineers carry a stock of common parts. Where a repair needs a part that isn't on the van, we'll order it and arrange a return visit to fit it.

Emergency and out-of-hours call-outs

Out-of-hours emergency call-outs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Extra charges apply outside normal hours.

When a gate fails it can leave you stuck. On an emergency call-out, we can open a gate that's stuck shut so you can get in and out, or close a gate that's stuck open so your property is secure. The full repair can then follow once it has been assessed and quoted.

Paperwork after every visit

Every visit ends with paperwork and a written report. It records what we found, what we did and anything else we noticed, such as parts that are wearing and are likely to need attention before long. It's useful to keep on file, especially if you manage a site for others.

If the gate hasn't been checked over for a while, a safety systems and gate health check gives you a full picture of its condition. To keep on top of things after a repair, a maintenance contract puts your gate on a regular service schedule.
