Gates, Barriers and Access Control in Portsmouth

Portsmouth is a busy, tightly packed city. Space is short, entrances are often shared, and plenty of businesses run yards, depots and units that need to open and close all day. We work across the city on gates and automated entrances that suit that kind of setting, from a gated courtyard behind a row of terraces to a sliding gate on an industrial yard.

Automated Openings is based in Southampton. We design, manufacture, install, maintain and repair domestic and industrial gates and automated equipment, and supply and install barriers and bollards.

Built for tight spaces and shared entrances

In a dense city there's rarely room for a wide swing gate. Sliding gates, compact automation and careful layout often make more sense, and we'll look at what actually fits during the survey.

  • Shared and courtyard entrances: gates for flats, mews and courtyards that several households use, with keypads, intercoms or fobs so residents don't have to share keys. See our domestic and electric gates.
  • Business premises, yards and depots: sliding and swing gates sized for vans and lorries, built to cope with frequent daily use. See commercial and industrial gates.
  • Car parks and loading areas: rising arm barriers and bollards to control who comes in and to protect frontages. See barriers and bollards.
  • Awkward openings: where an off-the-shelf gate won't fit, we can design and manufacture one that does.

Salt air and your gate

Portsmouth sits on the coast, and salty air is hard on metal gates, hinges, motors and control boxes. Corrosion and stiff moving parts are common reasons for a gate to start playing up. Regular servicing helps catch this early, which is why we recommend a service at least every six months, especially near the sea. A maintenance contract keeps that on a regular footing for businesses and shared sites.

Servicing and repairs, including gates installed by others

We service and repair gates, barriers and automation whoever installed them. Our call-out fees are fixed, and repairs are quoted after we've assessed the gate on site, so you know the cost before any work goes ahead.

We force test on every check, installation and service, and you get a written report after every check or service. We fit safety edges where they're needed and carry out written risk assessments, which matters on shared entrances and busy commercial sites where lots of people pass through.

Out-of-hours emergency call-outs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Extra charges apply outside normal hours.

Portsmouth FAQs

Can you automate a gate on a shared entrance used by several households?

Yes. We can fit automation and access control such as keypads, intercoms or fobs so each resident can get in without sharing keys. We'll talk through how it should work for everyone during the survey.

Our yard gate is used all day. What would suit it?

It depends on the size of the opening, the space available and how often it runs. We'll look at the site and recommend a gate and automation built for that level of use.

Does living near the sea mean my gate needs more care?

Salt air can speed up wear on metalwork and motors, so regular servicing is worthwhile. We recommend a service at least every six months.
