Gate Automation Motor Suppliers: Automatic Gate Motors Supplied and Fitted
Automated Openings supplies and fits automatic gate motors for homes, businesses and industrial sites across Southampton, Hampshire, Dorset, Surrey and Berkshire. We match each motor to the gate it will drive, install it with the right control panel and safety devices, and test it before we hand over. Every gate starts with a free site survey.
Matching the motor to the gate
We size every gate automation motor against three things: the size of the gate, its weight and how it will be used. A light residential gate opening a few times a day needs something very different from a heavy commercial gate cycling all day. Getting this right at the start means smoother running and less strain on the motor.
The motor types we work with
Swing gates. We fit ram motors, articulated arm motors where piers are deep, and underground motors where you'd rather not see the automation at all. Double gates have one motor per gate.
Sliding and cantilever gates. Sliding gate motors drive the gate along a track; cantilever gates run on rollers with no track across the opening. Both use a geared motor and rack sized to the gate's weight.
Barriers. Barrier motors for car parks, estates and business premises that need controlled vehicle access.
Safety comes fitted as standard
Every motor we fit is paired with the right safety devices. Photocells are non-contact: they send a beam across the opening and stop or reverse the gate if something breaks it. Safety edges are contact devices fitted to the gate's leading or closing edges: they stop or reverse the gate if it touches something. Most gates use both. We force test every gate at commissioning so the forces it can exert are measured and recorded, in line with our duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Upgrading or replacing an old motor
Already have an automated gate? If the motor is failing, too small for the gate or out of date, we can replace or upgrade it, along with the control panel and safety devices where needed. Send photos or a short video of your gate by WhatsApp to 07890 387915 to help us prepare for the survey.
Handover, servicing and support
When the job is finished you get the paperwork to go with it: an electrical certificate where we carried out the electrics, an operation and maintenance (O&M) manual, the force-test readouts and a settings book kept in the control panel.
We recommend servicing at least every six months. Out-of-hours emergency call-outs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Extra charges apply outside normal hours.
Where we work
From our base in Southampton we cover the whole of Hampshire, including Portsmouth, Winchester, Romsey, Eastleigh, Totton, Fareham, Basingstoke and the New Forest. We also work across Dorset, Surrey and Berkshire.
Frequently asked questions
Do you supply and fit automatic gate motors? Yes. We supply the motor and fit it, together with the control panel, photocells and safety edges, then force test the gate at commissioning.
Which areas do you cover? We're based in Southampton and work across Hampshire, Dorset, Surrey and Berkshire.
Can you replace the motor on my existing gate? Yes. We replace and upgrade motors on existing gates after checking the gate, hinges and posts are in good order.
What's the difference between photocells and safety edges? Photocells are non-contact and detect something breaking a beam across the opening. Safety edges are contact devices that react if the gate touches something. Most gates use both.
