Gate Intercoms and Access Control Systems in Southampton and Hampshire
An electric gate is only as useful as the way you open it. The right access control means the family gets in without fuss, visitors and deliveries can be let in when you choose, and the wrong people stay out. We fit, repair and check gate intercoms and access control systems for homes, businesses and managed residential sites across Southampton and Hampshire, as well as Dorset, Surrey and Berkshire.
Choosing the right access control
The best set-up depends on who needs to get in, how often, and whether you're there to let them in. Most entrances use a mix of the options below.
Remote handsets
Small remote controls kept in the car or on a keyring. They're the everyday choice for drivers in the household or for regular staff. If a handset stops working, it's often the battery or lost programming. Our guide to a gate remote not working covers the safe checks you can do.
Keypads
A keypad at the gate lets people enter a code to open it. Keypads are useful for:
- visitors, cleaners and tradespeople you trust
- staff on a business site
- deliveries, where you can share a code and change it later
Codes can be changed whenever you need, so there's no need to chase lost remotes.
Intercoms
An intercom lets a visitor at the gate call you, so you can speak to them before letting them in.
Audio intercoms let you talk to the caller.
Video intercoms let you see who's there as well, which many people find more reassuring.
Intercoms can be wired back to the house or office, or wireless where running a cable is difficult. We'll look at the distance, the route and what's practical at your survey.
GSM access: open the gate from your phone
A GSM unit uses the mobile phone network. Authorised users call or use their phone to open the gate, and visitors calling from the gate can ring your mobile wherever you are. It's useful for:
- letting in deliveries when you're out
- business sites where a manager isn't always on hand
- giving temporary access without handing over a remote
Fobs and proximity readers
Proximity fobs and cards are tapped against a reader to open the gate. They suit businesses and shared residential sites where lots of people need access, and individual fobs can be added or removed when people come and go.
Exit loops and push buttons
A loop is a sensor cut into the driveway that detects a car and opens the gate as you drive out, so you don't need a remote to leave. Push buttons do the same for pedestrians or for opening the gate from inside a building. See our guide to loop detectors.
Access control for businesses and managed sites
For business premises, car parks, industrial sites and managed residential blocks, access control often needs to handle more users and more traffic. We combine gates, barriers and bollards with keypads, fobs, intercoms and GSM to suit the site, and we can set up different access for staff, residents, visitors and deliveries.
Upgrading an existing system
You don't need new gates to get better access control. We can add a keypad, intercom or GSM unit to most working electric gates, or replace an old system that's become unreliable, whoever installed it.
Keeping it working
Access control is part of every service and safety check. We check keypads, GSM units, handsets and intercoms work and operate the gate as they should, and any faults or worn parts go in your written report. Electric gates should be serviced at least every six months, and our maintenance contracts are tailored to each site.
If something stops working, send a photo or short video of the fault by WhatsApp to 07890 387915.
